Photographic Art and Mixed Media

Bio

I'm an adventurer, a lover of cacti, a hiker, a teacher, and a photo-artist. I'm based in Toronto, Ontario, but have a wandering spirit. I'm a geographer by education, a teacher by profession and a creator of visual images by inclination.

I've always been drawn to nature, outdoor pursuits, photography, and visual arts. I have experimented for many years with lino printmaking, mixed media, alcohol inks, and acrylic painting, but have found a renewed creative passion in non-traditional photography. I consider myself a hybrid of photographer and artist, a "photo-artist" who takes great liberties with colour, texture and saturation of my images.

As a person who was used to living life at a hectic pace, my life changed dramatically a few years ago due to a brain injury. I had no choice but to slow down to a snail's pace and learn to appreciate the quiet spaces in life more than ever before. My quest for quiet allowed me to stop and observe small details in both ordinary and extraordinary places that I would have missed in the rush of my previous life.

My goal is to create accessible pieces of art that mirror the moments of peace, exuberance, and beauty I stumble upon in this hushed version of life. While my images are often of quiet places, I seek to bring an intensity to my pieces that reflects the playfulness I find in both the exotic and the mundane.
